FC Barcelona has announced that Xavi Hernández will step down as head coach following this season after club president Joan Laporta informed Xavi of the decision on Friday.

Xavi will lead the team for one final time this Sunday in their away match against Sevilla as the club expressed gratitude for Xavi’s contributions, both as a coach and during his legendary playing career while also wishing him well in his future endeavors.

Barcelona will announce details regarding the new coaching structure in the coming days although multiple reports are suggesting that former Bayern Munich’s head coach Hansi Flick will take over as the new manager on a two year deal.

This Sunday marks the end of an era as Xavi Hernández leads the FC Barcelona men’s team for the last time after the club announced on Friday that Xavi wouldn’t continue as coach next season. His reign will conclude after their La Liga clash against Sevilla at the Sánchez Pizjuán stadium.

Addressing the media following this announcement, Xavi reflected on his two and a half years at the helm: “It’s been challenging, but I’m proud of what we accomplished. We gave it our all. Now, we aim to finish strong, and I’m excited for my final game as Barça coach”.

He expressed his gratitude: “Looking back, it’s been a fantastic experience, and I’ve learned a lot. I thank the club for this opportunity”.

Xavi confirmed he understood the club’s decision, stating, “The president explained the reasons, and I accept them.”

He emphasized his loyalty: “I’m a club man. I’ll always be there for Barça whenever they need me. Now, I’ll be a fan, supporting the team with my family at Montjuïc and Spotify Camp Nou. I’ll always wish the club the best”.

Despite the emotional rollercoaster, Xavi remains dedicated to Barcelona: “I love being part of Barça and working for the club. The door will always be open for a return if needed. This will always be my home”.
