He started his professional career at his home club, Vitoria, in his home country, where he eventually made the first squad. The defender traveled to Europe in 2013 to earn a contract with Villarreal, where he lived for one and a half years before moving on to Arsenal. Paulista spent two and a half seasons playing in the Premier League before going back to Valencia, Spain, to play for six and a half seasons.

At the end of the current campaign, Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez is expected to leave the team. He cites the club’s skewed climate and excruciating pressure as his reasons. He does not rule out going back, but he might return with more experience.

Earlier in the week it was reported that Xavi was not planning on retiring from management, and already Saudi Arabia have made it known to him that the Middle East is an option for him. Now Diario AS report that Xavi’s intentions are to continue coaching in Europe.

Although Xavi has ruled out going back to Qatar, his former captain asked him if he would be interested in taking over at Inter Miami, where former colleagues Jordi Alba, Lionel Messi, and Luis Suarez are presently playing, over a dinner in December with Sergio Busquets and their families. Xavi clarified that he planned to pursue his career in Europe, ruling out a second side in Spain.

He intends to take a hiatus and raise his family as Culers while spending time with them in Barcelona. He will, however, start looking for a new career the following summer, though an attractive offer might entice him to return sooner. Although the Premier League is his top priority, he is also considering positions in the Bundesliga.
