Fresh from helping England defend their European crown, Esme Morgan has set her sights on ending the year with another title — this time in the United States with the Washington Spirit.

The 24-year-old defender played a key role in the Lionesses’ tense Euro 2025 campaign in Switzerland, featuring in crucial knockout games and famously remaining calm under pressure thanks to a “gut feeling” they would win.
“Whenever I feel we’re going to win, it’s never been wrong,” Morgan told Goal.com, recalling how team-mate Lauren Hemp even came to rely on her quiet confidence.
While many of her England colleagues enjoyed a break after the tournament, Morgan was back in NWSL action just seven days later. “I wanted to come back straight away. We’ve got a Championship to win, and I want to help as much as possible,” she explained.

Her rapid return was met with a warm welcome in Washington. Goalkeeper Sandy MacIver surprised her at the airport, and at training the next day, Morgan walked into the changing room to the sound of Three Lions, balloons on her locker, and a gift hamper from her team-mates.

“I love my Spirit girls so much — it’s like having 30 sisters,” Morgan said. “I’d have felt like I was letting them down if I didn’t get straight back.”
With the NWSL season running until November, the Euro champion’s “thirst” for silverware remains unquenched. For Morgan, the mission is clear: add a U.S. title to a summer of glory.
