More Details
Qatar successfully defended their Asian Cup title in front of their home fans and one man proved to be the protagonist of that feat.
Akram Afif made sure of his country’s triumph by single-handedly spearheading The Maroons to their second Asian Cup title.
The 27 year old scored a hat trick in the final to take his tally in the tournament to eight goals and thus finish as the top scorer.
The Al Sadd winger put up a performance for the ages as he led Qatar to a 3-1 win over tournament surprise package Jordan.
Not only did the Doha born star finish as the top marksman, he was also deservedly named the player of the tournament for his scintillating displays all through the competition.
The former Villarreal, Sporting Gino’s and Eupen player could be in line for yet another AFC Asian player of the year after also picking up the award when his country won their first title in 2019.
Meanwhile…
Qatar goalkeeper Meshaal Barsham was named the best of the tournament in his position.
The 25 year old made several saves in the final to deny Jordan and preserve his team’s lead in the first half and in the early parts of the second half.
